What is Toad for MySQL? Toad™ for MySQL is a freeware tool for database development and administration that enables users to quickly and efficiently perform common MySQL database tasks through a familiar and intuitive user interface. Why has Dell built a Toad edition that supports MySQL? MySQL has always been a very popular DBMS platform and with its evolution to support larger scale environments it is becoming a viable replacement for Oracle (and its associated cost and maintenance overhead) in certain cases. Coupled with increased numbers of users leveraging related technologies like MariaDB and Amazon Aurora, it becomes clear that Toad users will continue to demand powerful tools to support these emerging DB Platforms. How much does Toad for MySQL cost? Toad for MySQL is currently a freeware product. The product will remain freeware/no cost in the near term. Are there or will there be any user restrictions like the Toad for Oracle freeware? Not in the near term, our goal is to drive broader usage across organizations that have diversified to include MySQL/Amazon Aurora/MariaDB in their enterprise strategy. I am happily using MySQL Workbench, should I switch to Toad for MySQL? Like MySQL itself, Toad’s appeal stems from its ease of use and quick ramp up times for users. For a database professional, in addition to simplicity, having the best tool for the job is a requirement. Both Toad for MySQL and Oracle MySQL Workbench have a long and devoted following. Also, both tools excel at certain areas of MySQL development and Administration. We recommend having both available to leverage the best features of each. How long has Toad for MySQL been available?
